The Significance of Dhanteras
The significance of Dhanteras is that we can achieve real wealth through the blessings of Shri
Dhanvantri Bhagwan. This real wealth is good health & freedom from diseases. For Wealth, we
worship Lord Shiva as Vitteshwara.
Dhanteras 2024 Date and Timing
The auspicious occasion of Dhanteras will fall on the 29th of October 2024. The ideal time
or Muhurat for performing the Pooja is between 5.38 PM and 8.13 PM. This timing has been
carefully calculated by astrologer Prikshit Kalia.
Dhanvantri Pooja for Health
For maintaining good health, Dhanvantri Pooja is performed. This involves lighting two diyas.
One diya, which should have 4 mukhi (faces), should be filled with cow ghee and placed on
the left side of the Shiva Linga. The second diya, which should have 2 mukhi (faces), should
contain mustard oil and be placed on the right side of the Shiva Linga.
After this, perform the Pancha Upachar Pooja of Shiva Linga and chant the below mantra:
ॐ श्री धन्वन्तरे नमः।
om śrī dhanvantare namaḥ |
Chant 8 malas of this mantra to prevent diseases. Those who are suffering from chronic
health issues must chant 14 malas.
Vitteshwara Pooja for Wealth
For wealth, Lord Shiva is worshipped as Vitteshwara. This Pooja increases income and wealth,
helps to cut down on unnecessary expenses, and ensures a stable flow of wealth.
The mantra to be chanted is:
ॐ नमः शिवाय नमः वित्तेश्वराय।
om namaḥ śivāya namaḥ vitteśvarāya |
Chant 11 malas of this mantra if you think your income is not sufficient and you need to earn
more. If you want to cut down expenses and amass wealth, chant 21 malas.
Buying Metals/Utensils on Dhanteras
On Dhanteras, it is customary to buy utensils of different metals based on the 2nd lord of our
Horoscope. This ensures health and wealth. For example, for Kanya Lagna, Venus is the 2nd
Lord, so they can buy silver utensils.
The metals corresponding to different planets are as follows:
Agni Planets Sun and Mars – Copper.
Jala Planets Moon and Venus – Silver.
Prithivi Planet Mercury – Earthen Ware.
Akash Planet Jupiter – Gold.
Vayu Planet Saturn – Steel or Iron.
